Short news about breast cancer

In order to avoid a late diagnosis of breast cancer women, who have not undergone mammography, should be first priority when it comes to new screening actions.

Hormones and low BMI reduced the accuracy of mammography. For the women, who had undergone hormone treatment or breast surgery or had a lower BMI than 25, the accuracy of the mammography was somewhat lower than average. This was shown in a British study.

Older women with breast cancer need not undergo radiotherapy. According to a new study, published in the New England Journal of Medicine, women with small, limited breast tumours had the same five year survival, irrespective of radiotherapy, after surgery where only the tumour was removed and where they were treated with Tamoxifen.

Tall teenage girls have an increased risk for breast cancer later in life. According to a recently published Danish study, birth weight and growth pattern during childhood influenced the risk of developing breast cancer.
