Four out of ten women suffer from joint failure!

Half a million Swedes suffer from arthrosis - the cartilage of the joints has undergone a change which leads to destruction and eventually total loss of the cartilage. It usually affects the joints of knees and hips but also fingers and shoulders with consequent pain and stiffness.

Joint pain is more common in women than in men. Four women out of ten over 50 years suffer from the disease. A study carried out among 310 women, aged 50-65, shows that:

  • 44 percent of the women suffer from joint pain
  • 54 percent of them take drugs to alleviate the pain or reduce the difficulties
  • 42 percent believe that joint pain is part of the natural ageing process – which is wrong and can lead to unnecessary pain and lack of medical care
  • 14 percent are on sick-leave full-time because of the pain

The cause of the pain is cartilage deterioration of the joints. But relief from the difficulties is possible in patients with mild to moderate joint pain. Studies also show that the substance glucosamine can slow down the deterioration of the cartilage.

Glucosamine is a substance produced in our body, in cartilage and tendons. It is made of sugar and amino acids. You can also take it in form of tablets, through Artrox, a drug available without prescription at the chemist's.
