Policy statement

1.6 Million Club continuously pushes for the implementation of a gender perspective in medical research and education. The concept of "one size fits all" is not only potentially and scientifically unsound, but can result in serious misdiagnosis and care. The inherent differences between men and women are self-evident and documented. Even individuals within the same sex have different symptoms, reactions to medicines, their dosage and the rate of recovery. How can these differences be so totally disregarded, between the sexes? We fail to understand why the medical research community and those who finance it, are still today, in the 21st century, so resistant. We vow to continue to fight until a gender perspective becomes compulsory in the education of medical professionals.

The 1.6 Million Club is "here" for all women!

1.6 Million Club is not only a voice for the concerns of women in mid-life but for all women, irregardless of age. Younger women face many challenges we did not. The benefits and lifestyles choices available to women today and the requirements that come with them are not without a "downside". The stress and strain both mental and physical upon many younger women today has resulted in some alarming statistics. Even younger women are having heart attacks, many "hit the wall" in their mid 30’s, (burn-out), alcohol and other drugs are becoming more and more prevalent among younger and younger women.

Good health and a healthy self image are rights every woman is entitled to, at any stage in her life. The 1.6 Million Club seeks to help and encourage young women of all ages to start taking care of themselves now! We lobby not only ourselves but for you also; politically and in the private/public sector for quality health care, a gender perspective in medical research and training, for recognition of the benefits of holistic and prophylactic care, for equality of women in the workplace, respect in the media, funding allocation etc.

We wholeheartedly say to all younger women; come with your ideas and dreams. We want your input and need your support and inspiration.

Welcome to the 1.6 Million Club!
